Had a very busy summer touring with the drum and bugle corps.  Had my birthday in September (EEK, I'm 50!).  It's taken me a while to catch up with everyone's messages and journal entries.

Halloween's coming!  We're having a big party on the 21st to celebrate all the milestone birthdays that happened this year.  Then, on Halloween we'll be decorating our friend's back yard as a walk-through display.  I loooove playing with all my Halloween crap.

This last weekend we went camping at Lake Mojave.  Two years ago I did this piece (see Featured Deviation) for a Photoshop class.  All of the elements are from photos taken at Lake Mojave.  I had fun doing it.

This was the "adults only" trip.  We usually take 4 trips to the river per year and one of those trips will be adults only.  Gotta have a trip with no whiny little kids!  This time Lindsay and Kyle were with us (and they hardly whined at all!).  It was great having them along.  Kyle and Lindsay even got to drive the big, scary boat!  At night around the camp fire we performed our songs for the rest of the crew.  There was much drunken reveling.  A great weekend.

I know I'm not burning up DA with journal entries but I thought I'd let everybody know that I won't be around for a while.  I'm leaving for a 3 week tour with Paige's drum and bugle corps.  Gonna be Mama-san for the band.  Lots of cooking and cleaning.  This is a half American, half Japanese group.  We're going to New Mexico, Arizona, Texas, Arkansas, Wisconsin and some other places I can't think of right now.

EEEKK!!!!

I added some things.  Go take a look.

I wanted to post some of the other things I've made that might not be considered proper Deviations.  I'll be adding a lot more soon.

Also, the first 4 Deviations in my gallery are my giftwrap designs.  If you like them you can purchase them at Rancho Curioso for $3 a sheet plus shipping.  I designed them so they could be used as posters as well as giftwrap.

Thanks!

It was kind of a last minute thing.  We did a flurry of shopping and managed to pull it together nicely.  We sure got lucky!  Paige got a pretty, simple, sheath dress in a very lovely shade of orange.  All of her accessories are black.  She got some long, black gloves, a sheer, beaded wrap, a rhinestone necklace and earrings, shoes.  I made the corsage and boutonierre with roses that are orangey yellow and rimmed with burgundy.  I added in black velvet ribbon and a little purple tulle.  The whole effect was really stunning and Paige looked just beautiful.

Rory wore a nice, black suit with a bright red tie.  The flowers really pulled their outfits together.  They both looked great together.  I'm so glad Paige is happy with how it all turned out.  Rory looked very impressed with his pretty girlfriend.

I'll post some photos when I get them uploaded.

Whew!  The last few days have been hectic!  Last night I went to see the Breakups with Lindsay, Kyle and Arica.  I was a laaaate show.  And a fun show!  I didn't get home until 4:30 this morning.  When I got up I had to hit the ground running.  I'm glad I can relax now.  Happy Mother's Day, everybody!  All I want to do tomorrow is take it easy (maybe I can get the girls to help with some quick housecleaning) and practice music with Jim, Lindsay and Kyle.

That's what yesterday was.  So, ok, we've got some work to do.

We didn't get to have a band practice last week so we were a little cold on the Casual Sunday stuff, below freezing on Kyle's songs.  Also, that bar was sooooo the wrong venue for the Kyle show.  Good for Casual Sunday, tho.  Sixties covers were just fine for that crowd.  Anyway, it wasn't the most satisfying performance we've ever done.  Not the worst either.

But I felt bad for Kyle.  I wanted him to feel happy about his first show.  It was a valuable learning experience for him, too.

And so we go.  I'm sure we'll rehash it with the rest of the band at the next practice.  This was just a little bump, bump, bumpety bump in the road.

But it was fun being on stage with Kyle and Lindsay.  I'm looking forward to more of that.
